Fall In Love with Frankie Maston

Live and let live.” I really wish this phrase takes control and just sit in it’s place because it will be a much easier world to live in.

Frankie Maston is a musician, a performer, a writer, a fashion designer & a personal stylist through her fashion brand Kali Elegance and turned to music in the year 2016/ 2017. You can describe Frankie as a lover for colorful & fun things with a bubbly personality. Frankie’s music career journey started t10 years ago with live music and no records at the time, hopping on all live stages/ open mic events that were available and built her audience from there.

In 2018, Frankie released her first record “Right Now,” a reggae infused song that fans loved and more followed and to now having released a whole EP that is making headlines.

For the love of live performances, Frankie started her own live music platforms in Dar es Salaam, “The Music Box” and “Acoustic Blues”, and now they are a platform for many other up & coming artists to explore their talents, find their sounds and get exposure.

Here is a one on one interview with Frankie Maston.

Why did you choose to go by your government name as your stage name?

I mean Frankie Maston sounds fabulous don’t you think? It just came in naturally, the first time I started as a live performer and I remember the first times that I used t go to open mic events, they would ask me, what is your name? what is your stage name? I would just be like Frankie Maston & they would ask, Is that your stage name? I mean I don’t need to, I don’t think there was a need for me to pick a specific name or nick name or you know what I mean like a stage name.

When did you fall in love with music?

I fell in love with music at a really young age, I think if I try to date it, it’s like all the way back in third grade and that’s when I had just discovered Mariah Carey’s music, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and all these records at home. I would just play them and I was just like wow! these people sound beautiful & amazing, for some reasons when I tried to sing I was like mmh! I can hit the notes & song that’s when I pretty much discovered it but it took me a long time, I was too shy. I got to perform live on stage for the first time when I was in seventh grade, kind of did a talent night but that wasn’t enough for me to get all the courage up. I performed live for the first time commercially in 2016 I think.

What inspired your new project “Mirrored or The Fall In Love” Ep, did you expect the impact it has & continuing to have?

Oh My God! So really, I did not believe when the EP came out & people started jamming to “Fall in love” and they just fell in love with it. The Oh My God! So really, I did not believe when the EP came out & people started jamming to “Fall in love” and they just fell in love with it. The reactions are just amazing, I am still in that phase, it tells you how much good music is just good music & how it can grow organically, I’m even more excited to se how it’s gonna (like the reactions) & how it’s gonna be when the visuals are released (soon we are going to be working on those), the pressure is real. But yeah, I am so happy, people are sending m nice messages, sending me clips of them jamming to the song singing, lip syncing, it’s just beautiful, I’m also getting to see all these beautiful people out there.

Mirrored EP available on all streaming platforms

The song itself was inspired by a feeling of love, it’s all kind of love by the way. I need to stress all kinds of love, including self love. I was really alone when I was writing this song & some how for some reasons I felt love, I was in Zanzibar, I call Zanzibar the city of love for some reasons. So I think that’s why I got inspired, I wrote about love and also the song is a wedding song, I have seen some brides using on their weddings already & it is just a beautiful feeling. Yah! that inspired it, love!

If you were to try out another genre of music what would it be?

Well that’s a really interesting question mostly because I consider myself an artist that is still finding themselves & really am excited to try new sounds. This is really for me, this is really the beginning of my career, I have a couple of sounds that I would like to, quickly thinking I can tell I’m definitely going to try do some Amapiano just because of the vibe.

Who is your inspiration?

Oh! I have a lot, the list could never end but the very first three are Whitney, Mariah & Celine Dion cause I grew up listening to these amazing ladies & let me just tell you, I feel like they taught me how to sing through their records and so they are my very very first but as I keep listening to music & as I keep making music, am imagining myself in the music world, I have come to pick up more inspiration, I really love Yemi Alade, I love Asa, I love Vanessa Mdee & Sauti Sol, I love The Weeknd, OMG! there is a lot, Bruno Mars & my very favorite especially for when it comes to live music, live performances Queen B.

Beyoncé is like my mother when it comes to live performances & I really love her shows and I always, when I do my own shows, am always like what would Beyoncé do?
