OGJ: The Soulful Trap Artiste

Jed Gatheru a.k.a OGJ is a 27-year-old new skool Kenyan rapper. His musical journey started way back in high school in 2010 at 16 and very ready to take the world on….., but it didn’t go as planned. The rapper grew up at the only 44 Kasarani, he is as native as they come.

Taking us through the Journey, Jed recalls an unforgettable incident,..

I remember going for a show where I completely messed up all my lines and I was 16. That incident let me hide my music side but it picked up again in 2016. Once I met my current team the UNIT the AMG, I never looked back. I have been working on music on & off since but after 2018 It has been lots of hardwork and here we are.

What are your Interests

If I’m not thinking of to make a new song or writing down a few bars, I’m either in school, gaming or watching many, many movies, I love visual entertainment

How is the Outreach of your new Ep, Arrow II

He been really low just to quantify it, very low- only friends or maybe the friends of family or family friends have taken up listening to my music.

I feel like it might be different from what people are used to so not everybody will be so open to hearing it but like I have something to say, I should be heard so.

Projects released

Since I started, I’ve released 4 projects. There is an EP series called “Arrow”, has Arrow I & II, a collab album with Yung Mos called “Supervillains”, and a collab album with DVPO called “Trap meets Funk”, as well as featuring in a few other projects with other artists.

Meaning behind Arrow

The Arrow Series started off as pure shout out to one of my favorites comic book characters in Arrow, so my intention was to have all songs coincide with the parts of an arrow or like a bow & arrow, like LIMBS & a riser, but working on my second installment that’s Arrow Two, I lost a close friend of mine so my intentions for the projects turned into pure pain & regret or the lack there of.
